Employers monitoring WFH
|
If I log in on work’s laptop at home.
What can my employer see? What files I’ve worked on or just that I’ve logged on ?

Most companies can't monitor everything an employee does online, so they normally use flags and AI to monitor anything dodgy or to spot unusual log on behaviour.
If you are an "HR case" they will possibly monitor every site you go on, but most IT depts are fucking useless so get that wrong as well.
What's your concern? Been slacking, faggot?

I wouldn’t use internet on my work laptop, so that’s not an issue. But if I have something on the space bar whilst in an excel work book pretending to work , can that be seen? So, yes I maybe slacking …..

using it at home may be fine, but if your company uses Siem, they will be be to analyze your actvivity the moment you connect the laptop to your companies network

Security Information and Event Management (SIEM) is a software solution that aggregates and analyzes activity from many different resources across your entire IT infrastructure. SIEM collects security data from network devices, servers, domain controllers, and more.

It is slightly worrying that I use a website also used by Golden Oldie.
Don't really want guilt by association if he blows up a Jewish school or something.

Depends how you are logging into your work network and, as wmc said, what logging the have on your employer's network. They should tell you but some do not. It can't hurt to ask.

Doesn't Zoom have an option where the host can see what windows you have open?
I always shut down www.womeneatingicecreamerotically.com before Zoom meetings.

I specifically stopped logging on to who on my work laptop for that reason - well, just the association with him and others and what gets posted.. My own laptop is off to the side of the work setup.

Like I said, it’s not what I’m doing on the web. It’s more, can they see what I’m actually doing…in excel or outlook. And can they monitor key strokes of your keyboard?

Re: Employers monitoring WFH

It's all possible. If hackers can record your sessions, log your keystrokes etc it's definitely possible that your employer can do these things - they own the device right?
SIEM doesn't really come into it, this is not their purpose.
Probably best not to do dodgy shit on a work laptop in this day and age.

Honestly say the cost of monitoring specific activity would pretty much always outweigh the benefits. There are some freaks out there of course, but for the most part it just is easier to find ways to measure productivity than to get into watching keystrokes.

Some places monitor and store the sessions and only ever look at it if they're given a reason to. Like someone grassing you up for being a dickhead on your work laptop. Or general uselessness.

I've been told by a professional recruiter that 40% of UK employers check the social media records of at least some of their new hires. I some cases, that will just be executives, in others it will be all of the workforce.
I reckon it's probably higher in the US.
